Michael practices Chinese Medicine in the tradition of a scholar-physician (儒醫). Upon completion of his formal Chinese Medicine studies, Michael enrolled to learn Chinese language. He completed 3 years of studying modern Chinese, including 1 year living in China. He then studied another year of Classical Chinese as part of his honours program, which included a thesis on the dynamics of Yin-Yang in Pre-Medical Chinese Philosophical texts.
This set the foundation for how Michael approaches the medicine, which is through the lens of Chinese Medicine ancestors. He uses the classics to guide his thought and diagnostics in clinic, and when it is unclear he will seek the answer in Chinese medical writings.
